Davey Joins Broken Bells As Tour Percussionist

Just a brief note to tell you that Davey Brozowski, the man behind the drum kit in Black Whales, has joined up with Broken Bells for their tour promoting their new album. He’s playing percussion alongside Dangermouse on the drums. Brozowski also works as the drum tech for Modest Mouse when he’s not out with Black Whales. He’s only taking a brief break from Black Whales though as they’ve just finished demoing new songs and are headed into the studio in April to record the follow-up to their break out debut ep, Origins.

I was reminded today how deceiving February weather in Seattle can be. Some trees (the dumber ones) have flowers on them and if you didn’t live here, you’d think that it was almost spring. Not to be the bearer of bad news, but this happens almost every year. March and April will bring us back to earth, I’m sure. For now though, it makes my office that much better…reflecting off the concrete of the buffer area of the third runway, through the dirty business park complex glass.

That pointless piece of shit being said, here are some lyrics to an untitled/unfinished/undecided song:

Seattle Weekly blog road trip to PDX!

Last weekend we loaded up the van and hit the road for Portland for a Mt. Fuji Records showcase show at Mississippi Studios with Virgin Islands, The Maldives and Pt. Juncture, WA.

Photographer Bobby McHugh grabbed his camera and jumped in with us to take shots for Seattle Weekly’s blog. It was a wild, blurry weekend in Oregon and although not all of the pictures make the cut, the ones that were posted can be seen here:

Back To The Drawing Cave…

We’re back from tour. We’ve had a chance to catch our breath. Now we’re resetting and starting work on our full length record which we have been anxious to begin. It’s too early to think about things like album names and which songs to use and which one goes where, but producer talks have happened and we are getting really excited to work on some of these new ideas that have kind of been waiting on a shelf.

We really appreciate all of the support we have got and continue to get on the ORIGINS EP that Mt. Fuji released in September! Shows supporting the record have been great, but for now, we’re going to blow out the candles and crawl back into the black cave to put some of these ideas on paper and see what comes out on the other side of winter.

We’ll try and keep things updated as often as possible.

Tour Wind Down

So this is it: day 24 of our US tour and we’re down to our last two shows out of state before heading home to do one last show at home, then close the book on it. We’re in L.A. It’s going to be 80+ degrees here and we have a day to screw around in California with a rental car. Last night we played a good show at Molly Malone’s, despite a bit of guitar technical difficulties, and tomorrow night we play The Silverlake Lounge in…….Silverlake.

If you live in L.A., we’ll be getting weird and you should join us. Black Whales play at 10pm.

Come dressed as Ian Ziering and win a prize…and respect.

Music Fest Northwest tonight in PDX!

EP Release Party & US Tour Dates!

We have booked our “Origins” CD Release party for September 18th, 2009 at The Tractor Tavern in beautiful/salty Ballard with Bobby Bare Jr. (!) and All Smiles! (All Smiles is a band with Jim Fairchild of Grandaddy, who now plays guitar with Modest Mouse. Rad! So, we’re excited to say that you should get tickets in advance. You can do that here.

We will be a part of this year’s Bumbershoot Festival. Black Whales play on Sunday, September 6th at the EMP SkyChurch from 2pm – 3pm! Tickets are still only $35 for one day passes, so get ‘em quick. After that, it’s around $50 a ticket, which is like eating laundry detergent. The powder kind.

Also…in support of the record coming out, we are putting the final touches on our first US tour, which starts on October 9th. You can check our shows page for a list of all of tour dates so far. As we get closer to hitting the road, check back as we’ll have more information and possibly more shows to post! If you live in a city we’re stopping through, or know someone who does, make some calls, get some kids out pleeeeeeeze.
